Travel to the Roman Empire

The counties Yorkshire and Northumbria belong to the Northern area of England. These are rich in history from the Dark Ages. There are many festivals and museums that illustrate Viking history.
Furthermore you will find historical churches such as York Minster, which some say is as impressive as Westminster Abbey.

There are medieval city walls remaining around some of the smaller villages. Some recommended sites are Durham Cathedral and Hadrian’s Wall (the wall to keep the Scottish out during the times of the Roman empire). The Lake District, which is very popular among tourists of all ages, is located in the North.
